Budget 2027 MOE allocation school maintenance

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 10 – The Ministry of Education (MOE) will continue to receive the largest slice of national spending with an allocation of nearly RM69 billion under Budget 2027, an increase from RM66.2 billion allocated in the previous fiscal year.

In a statement released on Saturday, October 10, 2026, the ministry confirmed that funds will be directed toward student and teacher welfare, upgrading school maintenance, expanding infrastructure, and building new educational facilities.

The MOE emphasized its commitment to translating the record funding into high-impact, tangible outcomes for educators, students, and the broader education ecosystem while enforcing efficient financial governance and transparency.

Key Student Welfare Aid and School Maintenance Highlights

The MOE outlined several major financial disbursements and structural allocations under the 2027 fiscal plan:

  • Increased Early Schooling Aid (BAP): BAP financial assistance will increase from RM150 to RM200 per student for the 2027 academic session, benefiting 5.3 million students nationwide with a total outlay of RM1 billion.
  • Form Six Cost-of-Living Allowance: The government has introduced a dedicated cost-of-living allowance of RM2,500 for Form Six students.
  • Doubled School Maintenance Budget: Funding for school maintenance and repairs has doubled from RM1 billion to RM2 billion across all school types.
  • School Category Maintenance Breakdowns: National Schools (SK) will receive RM900 million, National-Type Chinese Schools (SJKC) are allocated RM100 million, and National-Type Tamil Schools (SJKT) will get RM50 million.
  • Dilapidated School Upgrades: Nearly RM1.3 billion is earmarked to redevelop and upgrade 682 dilapidated schools, with primary focus on Sabah and Sarawak.
  • Ongoing Student Programs: Core assistance frameworks—including the Supplementary Food Programme (RMT), Special Educational Needs Student Allowance (MBPK), and teacher professional development initiatives—will be maintained and strengthened.

The ministry stated that the landmark funding reflects the MADANI Government’s core belief that education remains central to long-term national growth and human capital development.
