KUCHING, Oct 10 – Five victims who tragically lost their lives in the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Baram, were posthumously conferred the Pegawai Bintang Sarawak (PBS) state award on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

The posthumous honours were awarded in conjunction with the official 80th birthday celebration of Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The five crash victims—identified as Alexson Adit Henry, Debra Moset, Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, Jessie Paya Jok, and Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham—were among 1,350 distinguished individuals recognized in the state honours list for the Governor’s birthday celebration.

Incident Overview and Victims’ Background

The award recognition follows the tragic aviation accident during a medical service mission in northern Sarawak:

  • Tragic Aviation Crash: On September 8, 2026, a BO-105 helicopter operated under the Flying Doctor Service carrying five individuals crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing airport (STOLport).
  • Sarawak Native Victims: Three of the deceased—Alexson Adit Henry, Debra Moset, and Jessie Paya Jok—were natives of Sarawak serving on the medical delivery team.
  • Peninsular Victims: Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin hailed from Kelantan, while the helicopter pilot, Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, originated from Negeri Sembilan.

The posthumous awards serve to honor their dedication and ultimate sacrifice in delivering crucial healthcare services to remote rural communities in Sarawak.
