KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 – MERCY Malaysia is expanding its Haze Emergency Response nationwide to deliver public health information and practical assistance to communities affected by worsening air pollution, with a focus on vulnerable populations.
In an official statement released Friday night, October 9, 2026, the humanitarian organization confirmed that the nationwide rollout expands upon its active operations in Sarawak, where it has been leading public health advocacy, community awareness, and direct support.
Air quality levels continue to deteriorate across Peninsular Malaysia, impacting Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur.
High-Risk Demographics, Response Kits, and Call for Support
MERCY Malaysia highlighted key operational preparations, public health measures, and multi-stakeholder collaboration:
- Vulnerable Groups At Risk: Children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and individuals suffering from existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions face the highest health risks during prolonged haze exposure.
- Monsoon Preparations: Ahead of the upcoming Northeast Monsoon, MERCY Malaysia is actively monitoring environmental conditions, conducting needs assessments, and coordinating with stakeholders to address haze-related emergency demands across western Peninsular Malaysia and beyond.
- Emergency Kit Contents: The organization has assembled Haze Emergency Response Kits containing KF94 face masks, loratadine, lozenges, normal saline, wet wipes, a health information flyer, and a clear pouch for distribution.
- Call for Collective Action: MERCY Malaysia President Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus emphasized that managing haze impacts requires unified efforts across government, civil society, the private sector, and the public.
- Appeal for Donations: MERCY Malaysia urged federal and state authorities to maintain clear public advisories while appealing to corporate donors and the public for contributions to fund response kits, advocacy, and community relief.
