KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 – Bursa Malaysia opened slightly higher on Friday morning as market participants adopted a cautious tone ahead of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official tabling of Budget 2027 later today.
Investors are closely tracking potential policy announcements, fiscal incentives, and structural support measures aimed at strategic industrial sectors and consumer spending power.
At 9:16 AM on Friday, October 9, 2026, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) picked up 1.14 points to trade at 1,602.15, rising from Thursday’s close of 1,601.01.
The index had opened 1.93 points higher earlier at 1,602.94.
Market Breadth and Trading Volume
Despite the benchmark index edging into positive territory, broader market breadth leaned slightly negative during early trading:
- Decliners vs Gainers: Losers edged out gainers 233 to 216, while 284 counters remained unchanged, 2,095 untraded, and 13 suspended.

Key Heavyweights and Active Movers
Major banking, healthcare, and technology counters showed mixed performance in early trade:
- Heavyweight Movements: Heavyweights saw modest gains, with Maybank and Public Bank adding one sen each to RM9.81 and RM4.56, respectively. Tenaga Nasional advanced two sen to RM12.92, while IHH Healthcare picked up seven sen to RM7.95. Conversely, CIMB slipped three sen to RM7.23.
- Active Counters: Dagang NeXchange gained 1.5 sen to 54 sen and Ni Hsin inched up half a sen to 39.5 sen. Top Glove dropped two sen to 85.5 sen, while Xidelang and Land & General held flat at half a sen and 19 sen, respectively.
- Top Gainers: Technology and renewable energy counters performed strongly, led by Mi Technovation which surged 56 sen to RM6.64. BLD Plantation and Hong Leong Industries gained 12 sen each to RM14.98 and RM16.20, respectively, followed by Samaiden (up nine sen to RM3.10) and Solarvest (up eight sen to RM4.24).
- Top Decliners: Negri Sembilan Oil Palms fell 42 sen to RM5.03, while Malaysian Pacific Industries shed 18 sen to RM43.32. FCW dropped 11 sen to RM1.70, and both Hong Leong Financial Group and APM Automotive lost 10 sen to RM17.18 and RM2.60, respectively.

Sector performance was mixed across the board:
- Energy Index: Advanced 4.37 points to 843.71 on sustained interest.
- Sectoral Declines: The Financial Services Index shed 30.91 points to 18,347.54, the Plantation Index lost 12.29 points to 8,857.50, and the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 0.11 of a point to 178.72.
- Broader Indices: The FBM Mid 70 Index rose 12.37 points to 17,549.44, the FBM Emas Index added 9.56 points to 12,039.32, the FBM Top 100 Index advanced 8.41 points to 11,813.52, the FBM Emas Shariah Index gained 17.87 points to 12,077.70, and the FBM ACE Index edged up 14.24 points to 5,609.02.
