KLIA Aerotrain To Undergo Scheduled Software Update

SEPANG, Oct 7 – The KLIA Aerotrain will undergo a scheduled software upgrade after achieving 20,000 continuous operational hours to enhance system robustness and long-term performance.

The upgrade will be executed in two phases during off-peak standard engineering hours—between 12:00 AM and 5:00 AM—during which Aerotrain services will be temporarily suspended.

KLIA Chief Operating Officer Adam Nicholas Wilson stated on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, that the Aerotrain system has maintained a 99.9 per cent availability rate since completing its Comprehensive Action Plan in June 2026.

“Over the past 1.5 years, it has completed 167,481 return trips and carried approximately 23.55 million passengers,” Wilson said in an official statement.

Two-Phase Implementation Timeline

The software update will be rolled out across two distinct phases to ensure safety compliance and operational verification:

  • Phase 1 (Field Testing): Running from October 8 to October 17, 2026, this phase involves installing and evaluating the software update under live operating conditions.
  • Independent Safety Assessment: Test results will undergo rigorous evaluation by an independent safety assessor following the completion of Phase 1 field testing.
  • Phase 2 (Deployment Roll Out): Subject to safety clearance, permanent deployment of the updated software will take place between November 28 and December 1, 2026.

Contingency Arrangements and Passenger Transfers

To ensure uninterrupted passenger movement between the Main Terminal Building and the Satellite Terminal during the engineering closures, Malaysia Airports will activate full shuttle bus services.

During the midnight to 5:00 AM maintenance windows, passengers will be directed via signage to designated bus lounges, with ground staff stationed to assist travelers.

Wilson reaffirmed that planned maintenance and systematic software updates remain vital to sustaining high reliability and passenger safety standards across KLIA’s transit infrastructure.
