KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has hinted that the federal government will announce a special allocation for youth in Budget 2027, scheduled for tabling on October 9.
Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, emphasized that the upcoming supply bill will directly address financial pressures facing tertiary students, particularly regarding living expenses and student welfare among lower-income households.
“There are university students who say, ‘We want to study but we are hungry.’ We will focus on this, and I will announce it during the budget presentation,” Anwar stated. “Poor students who cannot afford it are forced to go into debt — these are issues we must listen to. I reiterate that this country is not poor; praise be to God, this nation possesses wealth.”
Youth Empowerment and Leadership Focus
Speaking at the launch of the Youth Economic Forum 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Saturday, October 3, 2026, Anwar reiterated that young Malaysians should serve as active leadership partners rather than passive observers of policy development.
Attending the event alongside Anwar were:
- Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari: Minister of Youth and Sports.
- Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim: Political Secretary to the Minister of Finance.
- Fanitsyara Kam Phon: President of the Perdana Fellows Alumni Association.
Strategic Educational Space and Multilingual Mastery
The Prime Minister noted that prior to the event, he held extensive engagements with academics and industry experts to strategize on maintaining Malaysia’s global competitiveness.
He highlighted that the government’s primary responsibility is to upgrade national education quality while providing youth with the tools and freedom to master key international disciplines. This includes fostering proficiency in multiple languages, including Malay, English, Chinese, Arabic, French, and German, to expand global operational opportunities for the next generation.
