Perikatan Nasional Confirms Receipt of RoS Notices, Vows Legal Challenge Amid Suspension Order

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 – Perikatan Nasional (PN) has confirmed receiving two formal notices from the Registrar of Societies (RoS), including a suspension order affecting all coalition activities.

PN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed in a statement on Thursday that the notices were issued under Subsections 13(2) and 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 on Sept 22 and Sept 23, respectively.

“PN takes note of the decision by RoS, but does not agree with the basis of the decision and is taking immediate steps through the legal processes available to defend the objectives of its establishment and its agenda, which is supported by its members and supporters,” Takiyuddin stated.

Following the development, Takiyuddin urged all party members and supporters to remain calm and issued an immediate gag order prohibiting any individual or party from issuing statements on behalf of PN, reserving speaking authority strictly to the coalition’s chairman and secretary-general.

Clarifying the legal action, the RoS issued a separate statement confirming that the notice issued under Subsection 13(2) on Sept 22 does not constitute a deregistration of the coalition. Instead, it provides PN with a formal window to show cause and clarify a dispute following an official complaint lodged by component party Bersatu.

However, under Subsection 13(2A), the RoS issued a temporary suspension order halting all PN operational activities effective Sept 23 pending the outcome of the inquiry.

The RoS confirmed receiving Bersatu’s official complaint on Aug 11, which alleged that the party was improperly excluded from a PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16 and raised disputes regarding Bersatu’s official membership status within the opposition coalition.
