Unemployed Man With 27 Prior Records Arrested for Beating and Slashing Wife in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — Police have arrested an unemployed local man with 27 prior criminal and drug records on suspicion of beating and slashing his wife with a sharp weapon in Cheras.

Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Sazalee Adam stated that the suspect, in his 30s, was arrested by a team from the Cheras district police headquarters (IPD) at the Dang Wangi IPD compound at 4:10 pm on Sept 8.

The incident came to light after police received a report from an Ampang Hospital doctor at 2:19 pm on Aug 29 regarding a local woman in her 40s treated for assault and slash wounds.

“The victim sustained injuries and is suspected to have been beaten and slashed by her husband from an unregistered customary marriage. The woman was admitted to the orthopaedic ward before lodging a police report upon her discharge on Sept 4,” Sazalee said in a statement today.

Subsequent background checks revealed that the suspect has 15 prior criminal records and 12 drug-related offences. A preliminary urine test also returned positive for drugs.

The suspect was remanded for six days until Sept 14 to assist in investigations before being released on police bail. The case is currently being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a weapon, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, whipping, or any two of these punishments upon conviction.
