KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — Malaysia has expressed its support for Saudi Arabia following the successful interception of a drone near Makkah, asserting that any attempt to threaten the security and sanctity of Islam’s holiest city is completely unacceptable.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that Malaysia appreciates the swift action taken to safeguard the safety of residents and pilgrims in Makkah.
“I have been following reports on a drone that was successfully intercepted near Makkah al-Mukarramah. This incident serves as a reminder of the need to avoid any actions that could further escalate tensions in the region,” Anwar said in a Facebook post today.
Anwar called for an immediate halt to all attacks on civilian areas and any actions that endanger the security and sanctity of holy sites.
He added that all parties involved must choose the path of peace through dialogue to de-escalate tensions and seek a resolution without delay.
