KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — Malaysia Day serves as a reminder that the nation was built on a covenant between the government and the people, between the regions and the Federation, and between loyalty and justice, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In a Facebook post published in conjunction with Malaysia Day today, Anwar stated that Sept 16 represents a commitment that must be constantly renewed to ensure no region is marginalized, no community feels alienated, and no citizen is left behind in the nation’s progress.
However, the Prime Minister acknowledged that there were periods in the country’s history when its trajectory had veered off course. He noted that such deviations occurred when racial issues were exploited, regional disparities were allowed to widen, and social differences were turned into dividing walls.
“The sea may separate us, but not our national aspirations and hopes. Happy Malaysia Day!” Anwar wrote.
