Left Lane Closed at KM 263.6 of North-South Expressway Following Landslide Near Menora Tunnel

IPOH, Sept 12 – Authorities have implemented a precautionary lane closure on the North-South Expressway (southbound) at Kilometre (KM) 263.6 following a landslide, deploying safety cones across a one-kilometre stretch from KM 262.8 to KM 263.8.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin confirmed that the closure was enacted as a safety precaution and that a contraflow lane has not been activated. He noted that traffic flow continues to be monitored dynamically based on real-time conditions at the location. Detailing surveillance efforts, Mohd Alwi said in a statement on Saturday, “CCTV cameras at the nearby vista point will focused on the incident site to allow for continuous monitoring of the landslide area and traffic flow along that route,”.

He added that police officers, alongside PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) and related enforcement agencies, maintain continuous monitoring on-site to ensure the safety of motorists. Drivers passing through the affected area are advised to exercise caution, adhere to instructions from personnel and safety signage, and reduce their vehicle speed.

The site monitoring follows a major traffic bottleneck reported on Friday by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) after a slope collapse occurred along the southbound route between the Menora Tunnel and Ipoh. Updates shared on X by LLM noted that the incident initially caused a four-kilometre backup before expanding to a 15-kilometre congestion as cleanup and clearance operations progressed.
