Muhyiddin Demands One-Year Independent Forensic Audit Over RM12.6 Billion Tabung Haji Losses

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged the government to immediately conduct a comprehensive and transparent independent forensic audit into the management of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) funds, setting a one-year deadline for its completion.

Speaking during the debate on the Tabung Haji Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report at a Special Dewan Rakyat Sitting today, the Pagoh Member of Parliament emphasized that urgent forensic scrutiny is necessary following major governance and transparency failures exposed in the findings.

“An independent forensic audit is crucial to trace the flow of funds, identify elements of fraud, abuse of power and possible negligence,” Muhyiddin, who is also the Bersatu president, told the House.

He stressed that the RCI’s revelations—which highlighted estimated cumulative losses ranging between RM10 billion and RM12.6 billion from 2014 to 2020—must be addressed with uncompromising enforcement.

“Anyone responsible for causing losses to TH funds, whether through fraud, abuse of power or negligence, must be brought to justice,” he said.

Joining calls for broader accountability, MUDA-Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman urged the administration to establish a Multi-Agency Task Force to investigate 14 specific problematic investments flagged in the RCI report.

Syed Saddiq asserted that the proposed task force should integrate key enforcement bodies—including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Royal Malaysia Police, and the Inland Revenue Board—to prevent agency investigations from operating in isolation.

“The government needs to announce the establishment of a Multi-Agency Task Force to investigate each of the 14 investments that have been proven problematic, and extend the scope to Felda, FGV and Eagle High,” Syed Saddiq stated, proposing that forensic audits also be expanded to those ventures.

“So that ultimately we can find out who caused these problems and establish the losses that resulted,” he added.

Reinforcing the demand for transparency, Barisan Nasional’s Simpang Renggam MP Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad proposed that enforcement agencies provide structured, regular progress reports on all investigations originating from the RCI findings.

Hasni further recommended that today’s special parliamentary session serve as the foundation for permanent, bipartisan parliamentary oversight to consistently track and report the implementation of the RCI’s recommendations to the Dewan Rakyat.

The special sitting allowed lawmakers to debate the landmark RCI report on Tabung Haji, which was released to the public on July 29. The report detailed extensive operational and managerial flaws between 2014 and 2020 while outlining 25 key recommendations, 75 per cent of which TH had already implemented as of July 30.
