Wan Rosdy: BN-PN Pact Only for Negeri Sembilan

PETALING JAYA — Barisan Nasional’s (BN) electoral understanding with PAS-led Perikatan Nasional (PN) is strictly confined to the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election and does not apply to other states, according to Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

Wan Rosdy maintained that no broader BN-PN alliance exists elsewhere in the country, emphasizing that any decision regarding future political pacts rests strictly with the coalition’s highest governing body rather than individual leaders.

“As of today, that cooperation only applies in Negeri Sembilan. For other states, we will discuss the matter first,” Wan Rosdy stated.

“The decision will not be made by any particular individual but through consensus by the BN Supreme Council,” added the Pahang Menteri Besar, who leads a joint BN-Pakatan Harapan (PH) state administration.

Wan Rosdy explained that political alliances must remain adaptable and responsive to the distinct, ever-changing political environments across individual states, noting that localized challenges necessitated the strategic arrangement in Negeri Sembilan.

“Each state has their own situation and challenges,” he noted, underscoring why electoral strategies vary across different regional political landscapes.

Under the agreed pact for the August 1 Negeri Sembilan state election, BN is fielding candidates in 25 state assembly seats, while PN is contesting the remaining 11 constituencies. In contrast, Pakatan Harapan is contesting all 36 state assembly seats on its own.

Despite the localized agreement in Negeri Sembilan, PH and BN continue to serve as governing allies at the federal level, as well as in the BN-led state governments of Perak and Pahang, and the PH-led administrations in Penang and Selangor.
