WASHINGTON, Sept 16 — The United States House of Representatives passed a war powers resolution on Tuesday directing President Donald Trump to remove US armed forces from hostilities with Iran.
The lower chamber approved the measure, designated H. Con. Res. 93, by a vote of 220 to 204.
Sponsored by Democratic Representative Seth Moulton, the resolution gained bipartisan backing as seven Republican lawmakers voted in favour of the measure alongside Democrats.
The passage of H. Con. Res. 93 marks the third time the House of Representatives has approved a similar war powers resolution aimed at limiting executive military action against Iran.
The resolution seeks to reassert congressional authority over war powers as outlined in the US Constitution, requiring the administration to halt unauthorized military engagement without prior authorization from Congress.
