Upgrading of 17.1km Redline Pan Borneo Sarawak Scheduled for Completion by Early 2028

KUCHING, Sept 21 — The upgrading project for the 17.1-kilometer Redline sections of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway is expected to be completed by early 2028, according to the Ministry of Works (KKR).

In a statement released today, the ministry announced that the project encompasses pavement structure upgrades across nine strategic locations along the highway, including Lachau, Selangau, Balingian, Kemena, Sebiew, and Tudan.

The development represents a targeted government initiative to improve and expand existing road routes that were excluded during the initial implementation phase of the broader Pan Borneo Highway project. Prior to the commencement of this upgrading phase, approximately 87 percent of the existing road alignment comprised single-carriageway, two-lane routes.

Addressing the project’s procurement status, KKR confirmed that official tender procedures have been completed. The ministry, acting through the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), formally issued a Letter of Acceptance to appointed contractor DAL-HCM Sdn Bhd on August 18, 2026.

Expressing confidence in the execution of the works, the ministry stated its expectation that construction will proceed smoothly, remain strictly on schedule, and adhere to mandatory quality standards.

KKR emphasized that alongside Sarawak JKR, it will continuously and strictly monitor the project’s physical progress to ensure the contractor maintains full compliance with established safety standards and the project timeline.
