ALOR SETAR, Oct 14 – Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has pledged its full cooperation to investigating authorities following an incident in which three teenagers sustained injuries from electric shocks during a temple procession in Alor Setar, Kedah.
In an official statement released via its TNB Careline Facebook page on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the utility company expressed deep sympathy for the victims and prayed for their swift recovery.
The incident took place at approximately 9:00 PM on Tuesday night during a procession amidst light rain and strong wind conditions.
Preliminary internal findings by TNB indicate that the electric shock occurred when a tall flagpole being carried in the procession swayed too close to overhead high-voltage transmission lines, triggering a dangerous electrical arc flash.
Victim Details, Hospitalization, and Electrical Safety Advisory
TNB and local authorities provided key details surrounding the casualties and public safety guidelines:
- Teenage Victims Affected: The three injured individuals comprise two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old.
- Medical Emergency Response: All three teenagers were immediately rushed to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar for urgent medical treatment.
- Public Safety Distance Warning: TNB issued a strong advisory reminding event organizers and the general public to prioritize safety during outdoor gatherings by keeping tall objects, equipment, and flagpoles at a strict, safe distance from elevated power lines.
Enforcement and safety authorities continue to review the procession site to determine whether statutory safety distances were breached during the event.
