IPOH, Sept 19 — Three motorcyclists were killed and nine others injured in a major pre-dawn road crash involving 12 motorcycles and three cars along Jalan Jelapang-Ampang here today.
Ipoh district police chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah said members of the public alerted the police to the multi-vehicle collision at approximately 3:35 am.
Initial police investigations revealed that all 15 vehicles were travelling in the same direction from Meru towards Tambun when the crash occurred.
“Two male motorcyclists, aged 19 and 20, were pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining serious injuries, while another 19-year-old victim was pronounced dead at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB),” Muhammad Najib said in a statement today.
He added that nine other male motorcyclists, aged between 19 and 25, sustained injuries of varying severity and were transported to HRPB for further medical treatment.
The drivers of the three cars involved in the collision escaped uninjured.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Authorities have appealed to anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Ipoh district police headquarters.
