TEMERLOH, Aug 18 — A tanker lorry driver pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here today to two counts of reckless driving that caused the deaths of a mother and her 12-year-old son in a collision at Kilometre 9 of Jalan Temerloh-Triang last Friday.
The accused, 37-year-old Nor Azlan Mahayudin, entered the plea after the charges were formally read to him before Magistrate Anis Adlina Abu Johan.
Nor Azlan is accused of driving the tanker lorry dangerously, resulting in the deaths of Nur Fatima Syuhada Abdullah, 39, and her son, Muhamad Fattah Aisy Nuafal Saifulnizam, 12, at approximately 4 p.m. on August 14.
The charges were framed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a minimum jail sentence of five years and a maximum of 10 years, alongside a fine ranging between RM20,000 and RM50,000, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Amal Razim Alias led the prosecution, while the accused was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) counsel Mazieera Sharifudin.
Magistrate Anis Adlina granted the accused bail set at RM10,000 for both charges combined and scheduled October 1 for case mention.
The court proceedings follow the tragedy last Friday in which Nur Fatima Syuhada and Muhamad Fattah Aisy Nuafal were trapped and burnt to death inside their car after it caught fire upon being crushed by the tanker carrying 32,000 litres of fuel.
