Tabung Haji RCI Investigation Crucial to Prevent Further Losses, Says PM Anwar Ibrahim

Tabung Haji RCI investigation Anwar Ibrahim

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Aug 29 — The investigation into issues raised in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will continue to ensure that the country does not suffer further financial losses, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.

Anwar stressed that appropriate legal action must be taken if investigations uncover evidence of criminal wrongdoing, while reassuring that all proceedings will strictly adhere to due process and the rule of law.

Addressing criticisms over government enforcement actions, the Prime Minister questioned why efforts to investigate severe governance shortfalls met opposition when inaction would only cost the country.

“As in the Tabung Haji (RCI investigation), if no action is taken, the country will suffer losses, but when action is taken, I get criticised. I don’t understand. I said RM12 billion was lost. How was it lost? When was it lost? Investigate who was responsible for the loss. If there is evidence, charge them in court and then leave it to the judge. That is how we govern and administer the country,” he said.

Speaking at the launch of the MADANI Permatang Pauh Usahawan Bangkit Scheme (SUB) at Dewan Yayasan Aman in Penanti, Anwar reiterated that the government will not penalise individuals without proper legal process, but will firmly refuse to compromise where clear evidence of wrongdoing exists.
