Sultan Nazrin Honours 11 National Heroes at Perak National Day Awards Ceremony

IPOH, Aug 31 — His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, and Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim today graced the Perak-level National Day 2026 Awards Presentation Ceremony at Dewan Bandaran Ipoh, presenting special recognitions to 11 national security heroes.

Their Royal Highnesses were accompanied by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, Raja Muda of Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, Raja DiHilir of Perak Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah, and members of the State Executive Council.

During the ceremony, Sultan Nazrin presented contributions comprising RM1,000 in cash and a certificate of appreciation to each recipient in recognition of their service and sacrifices in defending the country’s security and sovereignty. The awardees consisted of six Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) personnel, two Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel, and three Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) personnel who sustained injuries or disabilities while executing operational duties.

Among the military personnel honored was Warrant Officer 2 Mohamad Razali Din, who lost his left leg below the knee after stepping on a landmine during Operation Naga in Banding. Warrant Officer 2 Megat Abdullah Megat Othman was presented with a commando knife and certificate of appreciation for successfully eliminating three communist insurgents during Operation Batu Kawah in Sri Aman. Other MAF recipients included Staff Sergeant Idris Ismail, Corporal Mokhtar Sulaiman, Lance Corporal Khairul Anuar Abdul Hamid, and Lance Corporal Alias Abd Wahab.

The PDRM recipients were retired Sub-Inspector Omar Jayus and retired Sergeant Major Abdul Malek Nordin, while the Navy veterans comprised retired First Admiral Mohamad Imran Abd Hamid, retired Commander Mohd Akhbar Mohd Yusof, and retired Warrant Officer 2 Ahmad Safwi Shaari. In addition to honoring the security personnel, Sultan Nazrin presented prizes to winners of the state-level National Month parade and beautification competitions.

Addressing the gathering, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad emphasized that Malaysia was built by a diverse society committed to coexistence, cautioning that national unity must never be taken for granted. He reminded attendees that social cohesion erodes when individuals begin judging others based on race, religion, or group affiliation rather than standing together under the Jalur Gemilang, the Federal Constitution, and the protective institution of the Malay Rulers.
