Storm Evacuation Figure Holds Firm At 55 Victims In Larut, Matang And Selama

Larut Matang Selama storm victims PPS 55

IPOH, Oct 16 – The total number of residents displaced by severe storm damage across the Larut, Matang, and Selama (LMS) districts remained stable at 55 individuals from 20 affected families as of Friday night, October 16, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Perak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, all displaced storm victims continue to be sheltered at the relief center operating at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Matang, which was activated on Wednesday afternoon.

The affected evacuees originate from four local villages: Kampung Changkat Baru Matang, Kampung Teluk Kertam, Kampung Melawati, and Kampung Hujung Matang.

“For information, monitoring conducted by LMS Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel shows that the water level is receding and there is no need to open additional PPS; the number of victims and families at the PPS due to the storm incident days ago remains unchanged,” the JPBN statement detailed.

Water Levels Recede, Patrols Active Across Vulnerable Villages

While storm relief operations remained stable, local disaster management authorities maintained active surveillance across low-lying zones:

  • Matang Relief Base: All 55 evacuees remain cared for at SK Matang, with no additional evacuation centers required as floodwaters continue to recede.
  • Village Damage Assessment: Last Wednesday’s severe hour-long storm—accompanied by heavy downpours and strong winds—damaged more than 35 houses, ripping off rooftops and uprooting trees across several villages in Mukim Matang.
  • Kampung Kubu Hilir Monitoring: The LMS APM District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) reported that river water levels in Mukim Bukit Gantang rose without overflowing main banks, though localized overflow inundated one village road and a single residence despite clear weather.
  • Mukim Batu Kurau Patrols: Inspections conducted around Kampung Ulu Sepetang and access routes near SK Ulu Sepetang confirmed receding water levels under light drizzle conditions.

Disaster management teams and Civil Defence Force personnel remain stationed in the LMS district to monitor river levels and clear fallen trees from rural access roads.
