MELAKA, Oct 7 – The Election Commission (EC) is convening a special meeting today in Melaka to finalize critical dates and operational preparations for the 16th Melaka State Election.
Chaired by EC Chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, the special session is scheduled to commence at 10:00 AM at a hotel along Jalan Bendahara, with an official press conference to follow immediately afterward.
During the press conference, the EC is expected to officially announce the formal election schedule along with administrative guidelines.

The election body will outline key milestones for the upcoming state polls, including:
- Issuance of Election Writ: Official announcement of the writ opening the election process.
- Nomination Day: Date for candidates to submit their nomination papers across the 28 state constituencies.
- Campaigning Window: Designated duration allowed for official political campaigning.
- Voting Dates: Specific dates set for early voting for security personnel and general polling day.
- Logistical Preparedness: Operational updates regarding polling stations, manpower, and electoral roll management.
Background of the Melaka Assembly Dissolution
The state election follows Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh’s announcement on September 22 regarding the dissolution of the 15th Melaka State Legislative Assembly, which took effect on September 23.
In the previous state election held in November 2021, Barisan Nasional (BN) achieved a two-thirds majority by winning 21 of the 28 contested seats to form the state government. Pakatan Harapan (PH) secured five seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won two.
