KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 – Malaysian national squash star S. Sivasangari clinched her first Silicon Valley Open crown in Redwood City, California, on Saturday.
The world number four defeated Egypt’s Farida Mohamed in straight games—11-7, 11-6, 11-8—completing the final victory in 31 minutes.
The win secured Sivasangari’s fourth career Professional Squash Association (PSA) Gold-level trophy and marked her initial tour title of the 2026 season.
Having finished as runner-up to America’s Olivia Weaver in last year’s final, the Kedah-born 27-year-old successfully converted her second appearance at the tournament into a championship title.
The women’s draw at the Silicon Valley Open 2026 featured total prize money of US$143,500 (approximately RM585,637).
Platinum Aspirations, Asian Games Triumph, and LA 2028 Qualification
Key tour ambitions, recent Asian Games performances, and Olympic qualification benchmarks include:
- Targeting Platinum Breakthroughs: Sivasangari reaffirmed her intention to win her first PSA Platinum-level title after reaching the semi-finals of a Platinum tournament earlier in the season.
- Asiad Title Defense: Last month at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan, Sivasangari defended her women’s singles gold medal before leading Malaysia to victory in the women’s team event.
- 2028 Olympic Qualification: Her double-gold performance at the 2026 Asian Games officially secured her qualification spot for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, where squash will make its Olympic debut.
