SERIAN, Sept 24 – Serian District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Sarawak recorded a very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 218 as of 8:00 AM today.
According to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, nine areas across Sarawak and one in Melaka recorded unhealthy API levels. Kuching registered the highest reading within the unhealthy category at 195, followed by Samarahan (188), Bintulu (170), Sri Aman (168), and Samalaju (163).
Other affected areas in Sarawak include Sibu and Sarikei—both recording readings of 158—alongside Mukah (151) and Miri (114). In Melaka, Bukit Rambai reported an unhealthy reading of 118.
Nationwide, 50 areas recorded moderate air quality levels, while seven areas maintained good air quality.
An API reading between 0 and 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings exceeding 300 are classified as hazardous.
