Reject Voter Bribery in Negeri Sembilan State Election, Says Zahid

SEREMBAN, July 29 — Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called for a complete rejection of voter bribery during the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election campaign, urging that any party involved be reported immediately to law enforcement authorities.

Speaking at a press conference following the closing ceremony of the Jelajah Pendidikan Tinggi dan TVET MARA Negeri Sembilan 2026 programme today, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that corrupt practices to secure votes must not be tolerated in democratic elections.

“If it is found to be true and there is evidence and witnesses, I will hand the matter over to the Election Commission (EC) and the police for investigation.

“I believe this should not have happened, especially if it was carried out by a competent party. We must reject such practices,” Zahid said.

The closing ceremony was also attended by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

Zahid’s comments follow allegations circulated on social media claiming that a political party had offered monetary or material bribes to voters in an attempt to buy support during the state election.

Providing an update on election enforcement, Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad confirmed that police opened three new investigation papers yesterday. This brings the cumulative total of investigation papers opened for election offences since campaigning officially commenced on July 18 to 19 cases.

Alzafny noted that among the three investigation papers opened yesterday was one specifically involving an offence under Section 11 of the Election Offences Act 1954 for committing bribery.
