KULAI, Oct 24 – Matters concerning the administrative status and position of Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain are currently being handled by top civil service leadership.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated on Saturday, October 24, 2026, that Home Ministry Secretary-General and Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) are managing the situation in accordance with existing public service regulations.

Speaking at a press conference following the launch of the 78th National Registration Day (HPN) celebration and the MADANI Adopted Village and School programmes in Kulai, Johor, Saifuddin emphasized that established civil service protocols govern officer conduct during active court proceedings.

The administrative review follows court charges brought against Mohd Shuhaily earlier in the week.

Key legal details, public service protocols, and political responses include:

  • Court Charges Filed: Last Wednesday, Mohd Shuhaily pleaded not guilty at the Sepang Magistrate’s Court to two charges of intentionally causing injuries to police personnel Faiz Saman and Ekmal Sofwan Dirman during an incident at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on September 28.
  • Legal Defense Position: Defence counsel Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad stated following the court hearing that his client will continue performing his official duties as AKPS Director-General unless formally directed otherwise by an administrative order.
  • Public Service Protocols: Saifuddin reiterated that the Chief Secretary to the Government and ministry leadership hold full authority to apply established civil service regulations regarding suspensions, transfers, or duties pending judicial outcomes.
  • Response to Opposition Criticism: Dismissing claims by opposition MPs that he failed to mediate agency disputes between AKPS and police personnel, Saifuddin stated he accepted feedback with an open mind while questioning the opposition’s internal coherence amid reported leadership conflicts between Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
