KUCHING, Sept 30 – Sarawak police will enlist international law enforcement agencies, including Interpol, to track down several suspects who have fled the country following a series of coordinated attacks on local convenience stores.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah confirmed that three suspects have been arrested to date, while approximately 10 additional individuals linked to the group have been identified.

“We have identified about 10 individuals so far, and there may be more from this group. Some have been identified as having fled the country,” Mohamad Zainal told reporters after attending the Sarawak Police Contingent’s monthly assembly at state police headquarters on Wednesday.

Police investigations indicate that the attacks stem from a commercial dispute surrounding the sale of mobile top-ups allegedly used to facilitate illegal online gambling activities.

Furthermore, police discovered business licence violations among certain convenience stores selling these top-ups and will submit formal recommendations to local authorities (PBT) to initiate administrative action.

The investigation follows two separate incidents on September 20 in Kuching and Sri Aman, where unidentified perpetrators hurled objects containing explosive or flammable materials into convenience store premises using a similar modus operandi.

Long Lellang Flying Doctor Service Helicopter Crash Investigation

In a separate update, Mohamad Zainal announced that police are nearing the completion of their investigation into the Air Medical Services (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang.

He confirmed that preliminary findings show no indications of foul play or sabotage.

“We believe the incident may have been caused by technical problems, but this will depend on the investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (BSKU), which will announce its findings,” he added.
