KOTA BHARU, Oct 6 – Police are actively identifying a man believed to be connected to an act of vandalism at the Al-Aziz Al-Hadi Mosque in Kota SPP Warisan, Tumpat, on Monday morning.
Tumpat District Police Chief ACP Mohd Khairi Shafie stated that closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captured the suspect at the scene around 6:35 AM on October 5.
Police initiated investigations after receiving a report from a member of the public regarding the incident.
“Initial checks found that the mosque’s glass door had been smashed and a foul-smelling, greenish-brown liquid poured onto the carpet in the prayer hall,” Mohd Khairi said in an official statement on Monday night.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal
Key operational details regarding the police investigation include:
- Legal Investigation: The case is being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code for defiling a place of worship with intent to insult religion, and Section 427 for committing mischief resulting in damage.
- Motive and Damage Assessment: Authorities are actively determining the suspect’s motive while conducting a full assessment of the financial losses and structural damage.
- Public Warning Against Speculation: Police advised members of the public against speculating, making unfounded allegations, or circulating unverified claims on social media platforms.
