Police Launch Probe Into Abandoned Pink Suitcase Left Outside CCTV Zone at Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS

ALOR SETAR, Aug 8 — Police have opened an investigation paper to determine the identity of the owner and uncover the motive behind a pink suitcase left abandoned at the inspection area of the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS), following an initial scanner alert for suspected explosives and narcotics.

Kedah Police Chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah confirmed that preliminary investigations revealed the precise location where the luggage was left fell outside the range of existing close-circuit television (CCTV) coverage, complicating efforts by law enforcement to swiftly identify the perpetrator.

“Police are currently investigating to identify the owner of the suitcase as well as the reason it was left at the location,” Adzli told reporters today.

The incident unfolded yesterday when authorities executed security procedures to neutralize the unclaimed pink suitcase discovered at the complex’s inspection bay.

Before neutralization measures were initiated, the luggage was routed through a customs scanning machine, where security imagery generated readings indicating potential explosive materials and illicit drugs inside the bag.

The Bomb Disposal Unit from the Kedah Police Contingent headquarters was immediately dispatched to handle the potential threat and carry out a thorough inspection.

However, upon neutralizing and opening the luggage, bomb disposal specialists confirmed there were no explosive materials or illegal substances present. The suitcase contained only personal effects, including clothing, a container of oil, a black hairdryer, shampoo, and lotion.

Investigations remain active as police work to trace the individual responsible for leaving the luggage at the border facility.
