Police Launch Operation After 62-Year-Old Woman Set On Fire in Kepong; MP Offers RM5,000 Reward

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 — Police have launched a special operation to track down an unidentified man who doused a 62-year-old woman with petrol and set her ablaze at a number forecast outlet in Taman Pusat Kepong.

In response to the horrifying attack, Kepong Member of Parliament Lim Lip Eng has stepped forward to offer a RM5,000 cash reward for credible information leading to the perpetrator’s arrest.

The violent incident occurred at approximately 8:00 pm, targeting the victim who was working as a counter staff member at the premises.

Acting Sentul District Police Chief Superintendent Jasni Zolpa stated that initial investigations revealed the victim had no known personal disputes or prior threats.

“Preliminary investigations revealed the victim did not have any enemies nor received any previous threats. The motive of the incident is being investigated,” Jasni said in a statement.

The victim suffered approximately 50 per cent burns across her body and was rushed to Hospital Kuala Lumpur, where she remains in stable but critical condition.

Following the incident, a forensics team from the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters thoroughly examined the crime scene, taking related physical samples and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) evidence to support the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

Strongly condemning the crime, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng called the assault a shocking and horrific act of violence.

“Dousing a woman with fuel and setting her on fire is a shocking and heinous act. The person responsible must be found, arrested, and brought to justice with the full force of the law,” Lim said.

“To assist police investigations, I am offering a RM5,000 reward for credible information that leads to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police immediately,” he added, warning members of the public not to approach or confront the suspect themselves.
