Police Detain Four Suspects Over Separate Cable Theft Incidents in Kampar and Kuala Kangsar

IPOH, Sept 5 — Police have arrested four local men following two separate cable theft incidents in Kampar and Kuala Kangsar early yesterday morning.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin confirmed that the first arrest took place in Kampar at approximately 4:30 AM. A patrol team from the Malim Nawar Police Station spotted two suspects, aged 42 and 46, behaving suspiciously near the Muniswarar Temple in Bata Malim Nawar.

Upon inspecting the suspects, officers seized two cable cutters alongside five rolls of cut cable. Technicians from Telekom Malaysia (TM) subsequently verified that the recovered cables belonged to the telecommunications firm.

“The telephone line cable had been cut and was no longer functioning, resulting in an estimated loss of about RM1,000 to TM,” Mohd Alwi said in an official statement released last night.

In a second, unrelated incident in Kuala Kangsar, authorities received a public tip-off at around 3:00 AM regarding suspicious vehicle movements in the vicinity of Taman Sri Pagi, Kati.

Acting on the information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kuala Kangsar District Police Headquarters intercepted and arrested two men, aged 24 and 36, along Jalan Raja Chulan.

Following the arrests, police impounded a silver Toyota Vios and confiscated a cable cutter, a cable-pulling iron, three rolls of cable, a crossbody bag, a mobile phone, and various related items believed to be linked to the crime.

Background checks revealed that all four suspects possess prior records, including previous drug-related offences.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. Police are currently conducting further inquiries to determine the suspects’ potential involvement in other cable theft cases reported throughout the district.
