PN Postpones Candidate Announcement For Final Melaka State Seat Ahead Of Nomination Day

Perikatan

MELAKA, Oct 30 – Perikatan Nasional (PN) has delayed the announcement of its candidate for one remaining state assembly seat allocated to the coalition under an understanding with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the 16th Melaka State Election.

PN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar clarified that the delay was due to pending administrative matters rather than a shortage of qualified contenders.

Speaking to reporters following PN’s candidate announcement ceremony at Dewan Muallim Haji Abdul Wahid in Bukit Katil on Thursday night, October 29, 2026, Ahmad Samsuri assured that all seat allocations and candidate names would be finalized before nomination day on Saturday, October 31.

He dismissed speculation that internal disputes among coalition component parties caused the postponement, reiterating that inter-party seat allocations were proceeding smoothly.

Ahmad Samsuri also confirmed that PN had mutually agreed to allocate the Bandar Hilir state seat to MCA under the broader cooperation framework.

Expressing confidence in the coalition’s campaign machinery, he emphasized that PN is contesting with a win-oriented strategy supported by electoral cooperation.

The Election Commission (EC) has set nomination day for Saturday, October 31, early voting for Tuesday, November 10, and polling day for Saturday, November 14, 2026.
