Plantation And Healthcare Heavyweights Lift Bursa Malaysia At Midday

Bursa Malaysia midday higher plantation healthcare heavyweights

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 – Bursa Malaysia maintained its upward momentum to end the Wednesday morning session higher, driven by persistent buying support in selected heavyweights, led by plantation and healthcare stocks.

At 12:30 PM on October 14, 2026, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 6.04 points, or 0.37 per cent, to reach 1,629.39 compared to Tuesday’s closing level of 1,623.35.

The key index opened 0.59 points stronger at 1,636.94 and fluctuated within a trading range of 1,623.94 to 1,637.10 throughout the morning session.

Despite gains in the main index, market breadth across the broader exchange remained negative, with decliners outpacing gainers 480 to 425, while 521 counters traded unchanged, 1,432 remained untraded, and 21 were suspended. Total morning turnover reached 1.93 billion units valued at RM1.40 billion.

Market Dynamics and Afternoon Outlook

Trading activity across the exchange reflected selective buying interest alongside cautious broader market sentiment:

  • Sectoral Drivers: Plantation and healthcare counters spearheaded the benchmark index’s mid-day gain, continuing the selective bargain-hunting trend seen earlier in the week.
  • Broader Market Breadth: Decliners maintained a slight edge over gainers, reflecting broader market caution despite heavyweights holding up the main index.
  • Trading Volume: Morning volume recorded 1.93 billion shares worth RM1.40 billion, maintaining steady market participation.

Market participants expect trading to remain selective during the afternoon session, with focus remaining on key index heavyweights and sector-specific catalysts.
