PKR Operations Unaffected by Nurul Izzah’s Temporary Leave — Fahmi Fadzil

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 — PKR’s administrative operations and organizational functions will proceed as usual without disruption following the decision to grant Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar temporary leave to pursue her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) studies and manage personal matters, confirmed PKR Information Chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil today.

Fahmi, who also serves as Communications Minister, revealed that the PKR Central Leadership Council (MPP) rejected Nurul Izzah’s resignation request and chose instead to approve a temporary leave of absence. Vice-President Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has been mandated to temporarily take on the duties and responsibilities of the deputy presidency.

Speaking at a press conference after officiating the Kuala Lumpur-level Safe Internet PIBG Convention 2026 today, Fahmi reassured party members and the public that organizational machinery remains fully operational.

“Nurul Izzah remains a party member and will continue to contribute to the party’s struggle,” Fahmi said.

Addressing speculation regarding Subang Member of Parliament Wong Chen allegedly vacating his parliamentary seat, Fahmi stated that he has received no information on the matter thus far, adding that any formal announcement remains subject to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

Fahmi also dismissed rumors suggesting that the next general election (GE) might be called early, clarifying that there are no such plans at present and confirming that the government expects national polls to take place by the end of next year at the latest.

He stressed that the Federal Government’s primary objective remains maintaining administrative stability, while expressing appreciation for the commitment shown by all component parties within the Unity Government to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership until the end of the term.

According to Fahmi, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and its partners in the Unity Government remain focused on driving key national reforms and addressing public concerns, including executing recommendations from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on Lembaga Tabung Haji covering 2014 to 2020.

The Communications Minister also hinted that the Prime Minister will be making several major announcements in the near future that will bring significant benefits to the people and the nation.
