MELAKA, Aug 15 — The PKR National Congress 2026 officially kicked off today, bringing together thousands of party delegates and leadership from across the nation as party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim prepares to deliver his landmark policy address outlining PKR’s strategic agenda and direction.
Convened under the official theme “Memugar Reformasi, Membina MADANI” (Revitalising Reformasi, Building MADANI), the two-day assembly is designed to provide a key platform for Parti Keadilan Rakyat to sharpen its political focus while reaffirming the foundational principles of the reformasi movement amid an evolving political landscape.
Anwar, who is also Prime Minister, is scheduled to officiate the congress today and deliver the keynote address to set the framework for delegates debating national governance and political strategy.
The main national congress follows yesterday’s wing conferences for Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) and Wanita PKR, both of which were officiated by PKR Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar.
Approximately 2,500 voting delegates alongside at least 3,000 registered observers from across all Malaysian states are expected to attend the sessions over the course of the weekend.
Underscoring the significance of the event, diplomatic representatives from major global powers—including the United States, China, Japan, and Australia—are present alongside leaders of local political parties.
Subsequent debate sessions will center on key public interest issues, particularly economic management, education policy, and political stability, featuring 16 designated speakers representing state delegations and party wings.
Beyond strengthening internal leadership cohesion, the congress aims to renew the party’s commitment to upholding institutional integrity, advancing social justice, and championing vulnerable communities. As part of the proceedings, the Bill Kayong Award will be presented to five families in recognition of the sacrifices of members who dedicated their lives to the party’s struggle.
The event also integrates public services delivered directly by government ministries and security agencies, including the National Registration Department (JPN), Immigration Department, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and the Registrar of Societies (ROS). Concurrently, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living is hosting its popular ‘Karnival Rahmah Mega’ on-site for delegates and members of the public.
Anwar is scheduled to deliver his winding-up address tomorrow before officially adjourning the 2026 congress.
