MIRI, Sept 8 — A pilot and four Ministry of Health (MOH) medical personnel have been confirmed dead after a Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport) this afternoon.

Miri Division Resident and Miri Division Disaster Management Committee Chairman Galong Luang confirmed that all five people on board the helicopter perished in the crash, which occurred at approximately 3:40 pm.

“This is based on reports from the Fire and Rescue Department and the Ministry of Health,” Galong said when contacted.

While authority reports confirmed the fatalities, Galong noted that further details regarding the full circumstances of the crash and the formal identities of the victims remain under investigation.

Earlier, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad confirmed that the flight had departed from Miri on official duty. The victims on board comprise the pilot, a medical officer, an assistant medical officer, and two nurses.
