PH Targets Minimum 19 Seats to Retain Negeri Sembilan, Says Election Director Amirudin

KUALA PILAH, July 31 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) has set its sights on securing at least 19 seats in the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election tomorrow, with a potential best-case expectation of winning 21 to 22 seats, coalition Election Director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said.

Speaking to reporters after attending the Kuala Pilah Berselawat dan Munajat Perdana Negeri Sembilan event at Dataran Melang last night, Amirudin stated that the target was formulated based on ground developments throughout the campaign period and PH’s past electoral performance.

Amirudin expressed confidence that the leadership track record of caretaker Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, combined with PH’s two consecutive terms of state administration since 2018, provides the coalition with a competitive edge on polling day.

“We are doing our best to secure a minimum of 19 seats, and if we are able to perform better, we may be able to win between 21 and 22 seats. That is our best expectation,” Amirudin said.

“However, we believe in the wisdom of voters and will continue our campaign efforts, based on our consistent track record since 2018,” he added.

Dismissing claims by opposition parties regarding a so-called “blue wave” momentum spilling over from Johor, Amirudin categorized the narrative as a political tactic aimed at swaying voter sentiment.

He emphasized that PH would remain focused on promoting the Malaysia MADANI governance framework and highlighting national unity rather than engaging in race-based rhetoric.

“Of course, the opposition is trying to create that narrative now, but we too have our own history of leadership and respected figures here,” Amirudin stressed.

“We will continue to highlight our approach by emphasising the MADANI context, where unity among the people is seen as the solution instead of focusing on racial-based rhetoric,” he noted.

A total of 867,151 ordinary voters are eligible to cast their ballots on Saturday across 36 state assembly seats following the official dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly on June 5.

Earlier on Tuesday, early voting recorded a 91.06 per cent turnout rate, with 14,995 early voters—comprising military, police personnel, and their spouses—exercising their franchise.
