PH Presidential Council Stresses ‘No One Above the Law’ Following Najib’s Conditional Pardon

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 18 — The Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council has declared that no individual is above the law, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to anti-corruption efforts and institutional reform following the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

In a statement today, the council expressed full support for the position taken by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, alongside the legal advice tendered by the Attorney General and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh to the Federal Territories Pardons Board.

“The Presidential Council also stresses that no one is above the law. Anyone convicted of an offence must serve their sentence in accordance with the law as stipulated in the Federal Constitution,” the council stated.

Reaffirming the ruling coalition’s core stance, the council emphasized its determination to continue combating graft, advancing the nation’s Reform agenda, and cleansing the country of any elements of power abuse or official misconduct.

The statement followed a top-level coalition meeting held at the Perdana Putra Building here, convened to address the fast-unfolding political developments. The meeting, which lasted over two hours starting from 5:30 pm, was chaired by Anwar in his capacity as PH chairman and attended by the coalition’s principal leadership.

Among those seen arriving at the venue were Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke, and PH Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Earlier in the day, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted a conditional pardon allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of an RM50 million fine. According to the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, the order was finalized during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya held at Istana Negara.
