SERDANG, Aug 25 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has been given the mandate to negotiate and finalize the details of proposed cooperation between the coalition and Barisan Nasional (BN) for the upcoming Melaka state election, PH Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed today.

Anwar, who is also the Prime Minister, stated that Amirudin has been entrusted to oversee the matter on behalf of the coalition.

“We have given Amir (Amirudin) the responsibility to work it out,” Anwar told reporters after attending the National Maulidur Rasul Celebration 1448/2026 here today.

Responding to media queries regarding reports that a recent meeting between him and Amirudin—who serves as the Selangor Menteri Besar—involved discussions on seat allocations for Melaka, Anwar clarified that their discussion centered on the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) hosted by Selangor, rather than politics.

“I met the Selangor Menteri Besar regarding SUKMA. During the Games, when would there be time for politics?” Anwar remarked.

When asked about the likelihood of inter-party cooperation in the Melaka polls, Anwar emphasized the broader importance of collaborative governance.

“Room for cooperation… in life, we must cooperate. This is all about cooperation,” he added.

Yesterday, PH Communications Director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that Amirudin had met with Anwar. Anwar previously noted that the PH election committee, led by Amirudin alongside PH Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, would convene to discuss potential electoral pacts with BN for the state election.
