PERKESO’s LINDUNG 24 Jam Scheme Benefit Claims Surge Threefold to 2,135 Cases in July

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — Benefit claims under the Social Security Organisation’s (PERKESO) LINDUNG 24 Jam Scheme more than tripled in July, rising sharply to 2,135 cases from 616 recorded in June, PERKESO announced in a statement today.

PERKESO highlighted that the dramatic increase in claim submissions underscores the critical necessity of extending social protection for workers beyond standard working hours.

From July 1 to July 31, more than 90 percent of claims were processed and approved within five days, resulting in a total payout of RM3.45 million disbursed to 2,508 beneficiaries.

“The payments covered medical reimbursements, temporary disability benefits, funeral expenses, dependants’ benefits, rehabilitation equipment, implants and other assistance,” PERKESO stated in the release. “Rehabilitation equipment and implants accounted for the largest share, at more than RM2.5 million, which had helped ease contributors’ medical costs and enabled implant procedures to be carried out promptly.”

PERKESO added that more than RM800,000 was disbursed in temporary disability benefits to serve as income replacement and support contributors and their families while on medical leave.

Since the LINDUNG 24 Jam Scheme officially came into effect on June 1, PERKESO has received a cumulative total of 2,751 claims, averaging approximately 45 cases per day, with total benefit payouts reaching RM4.69 million. This cumulative figure excludes more than RM2 million in long-term benefits disbursed to eligible family members.

The organisation noted that the sharp rise in claim volume highlights a broader need for comprehensive social security protection, specifically financial assistance for workers involved in non-work-related accidents.

While participation in the scheme remains voluntary for Malaysian workers, PERKESO urged contributors to maintain their coverage to ensure basic protection amid a worrying surge in accidents outside the workplace.

Designed to deliver round-the-clock social security coverage, the LINDUNG 24 Jam Scheme protects contributors and their families from shouldering the financial burden of unexpected accidents alone, while granting access to rehabilitation services to assist workers in returning to employment.
