Nik Mohamad Abduh Sworn In for Second Term as Senator

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 — Former Bachok Member of Parliament Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz took his oath of office as a senator for a second term today before Dewan Negara President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah at the Senate chamber in Parliament.

Nik Mohamad Abduh was re-elected by the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly under Article 45(1)(a) of the Federal Constitution for a three-year term, running from July 7, 2026, to July 6, 2029. The son of the late Kelantan Premier Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat previously completed his first term as a senator representing Kelantan from July 8, 2023, to July 7, 2026, following earlier terms in the Dewan Rakyat as MP for Pasir Mas and Bachok.

In his address, Awang Bemee stated that the re-election reflects sustained confidence in Nik Mohamad Abduh’s credibility and experience, enabling him to contribute meaningfully to parliamentary debates and national policy evaluation. He emphasized that the oath of office places a solemn duty on senators to uphold the Federal Constitution, champion the welfare of the public, and ensure individual state interests are fully represented.

Awang Bemee also reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to implementing legislative reforms, including enforcing the Parliamentary Service Act to enhance checks and balances and bolster institutional autonomy.

“Indeed, a strong Parliament strengthens democracy, and a strong democracy leads to more accountable governance,” Awang Bemee said.

According to the parliamentary calendar, the Senate sitting for the Third Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 15th Parliament will run for 14 days, commencing Nov 30.
