Myanmar President Arrives In Malaysia, Repatriation Among Key Issues

Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing Malaysia visit

SEPANG, Oct 7 – Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing arrived in Malaysia on Wednesday for a two-day official visit, with the repatriation of Myanmar nationals residing in Malaysia set as a primary focus during discussions with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The special aircraft carrying Min and his delegation landed at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 12:30 PM on October 7, 2026.

Upon arrival, Min was accorded a static guard of honour mounted by two officers and 26 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment, under the command of Capt Muhammad Ikhwan Adlan Jamaludin.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani served as the minister-in-attendance to receive the visiting delegation, alongside Malaysian Government Chief Protocol Officer Datuk Rozainor Ramli and Charge d’Affaires of Malaysia to Myanmar Johan Ariff Abdul Razak.

Official Itinerary and Bilateral Program

The visiting president’s formal agenda will continue on Thursday in Putrajaya:

  • Welcoming Ceremony: An official state welcoming ceremony will take place at the Perdana Putra Complex on Thursday morning.
  • Bilateral Talks: Anwar and Min will hold bilateral meetings focusing on regional security, economic cooperation, and the structured repatriation of Myanmar nationals.
  • Official Luncheon: Prime Minister Anwar will host an official luncheon in honor of the visiting Myanmar delegation.

ASEAN Framework and Regional Stability

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) stated that the state visit aligns with direct engagement protocols reaffirmed during the 48th ASEAN Summit in May 2026, which emphasized constructive and principled dialogue with Myanmar.

Wisma Putra reiterated that Myanmar remains an integral member of ASEAN, noting that Malaysia will continue supporting regional initiatives aimed at promoting peace, political reconciliation, and the delivery of humanitarian aid to affected populations while safeguarding regional security and economic stability.
