Muhyiddin Urges Govt to Extend Special Parliamentary Sitting Debating Tabung Haji RCI Report to Two Days

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 — Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has welcomed the government’s decision to make public the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), while urging the government to extend the upcoming special parliamentary sitting to at least two days.

In a statement today, the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) president highlighted that the decision to establish the RCI was originally made by the Cabinet during his tenure as Prime Minister.

Muhyiddin noted that releasing the 211-page document to the public is a crucial step toward transparency, allowing citizens to independently evaluate the commission’s findings.

“The establishment of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Lembaga Tabung Haji was decided by the Cabinet when I was Prime Minister. As such, I welcome the Government’s decision to reveal the Tabung Haji RCI Report,” Muhyiddin said.

“The disclosure of this report provides an opportunity for the rakyat to know and assess the commission’s findings in a transparent and fair manner,” he added.

However, the former Prime Minister pointed out that several critical aspects within the report still require further clarification from the government—specifically concerning forensic audit findings involving 14 problematic investments that caused the pilgrimage fund to incur billions of ringgit in losses.

To ensure these issues are thoroughly addressed, Muhyiddin proposed that the special parliamentary sitting scheduled for Aug 11, 2026, be extended beyond its current one-day schedule.

“I propose that the Special Parliamentary Sitting to debate the Tabung Haji RCI Report scheduled for Aug 11, 2026, be extended for at least two days,” Muhyiddin urged.

“This is to allow more Members of Parliament to participate in the debate by presenting sound and substantive arguments to improve the management, governance, and performance of Tabung Haji as the primary body managing investments and haj affairs for Muslims in Malaysia.”
