MFA Confirms Safety Of Malaysians In Saudi Arabia Amid Escalating Tensions

Malaysians safe Saudi Arabia tensions Mohamad Hasan

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 14 – Malaysians residing and working in Riyadh and Jeddah remain safe amidst continuing security tensions in Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan confirmed on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

Speaking at a media briefing in Putrajaya following a ministry handover ceremony, Mohamad stated that daily situational reports submitted by the Malaysian Embassy in Riyadh and the Malaysian Consulate in Jeddah confirm all Malaysian nationals in both major cities are accounted for and unharmed.

The Foreign Ministry remains in direct contact with the diaspora via the e-Konsular registration system to monitor conditions continuously.

Safety Directives, Travel Advisory, and Flight Disruption Updates

The Foreign Ministry outlined immediate safety instructions, regional flight impacts, and updates regarding consular proceedings:

  • Advisory to Remain Indoors: Mohamad advised Malaysians in Saudi Arabia to avoid crowded public places, strategic infrastructure, and potential target areas, urging them to remain at home as much as possible.
  • Non-Essential Travel Warning: Due to the unstable security environment, the Foreign Ministry advised Malaysians without urgent or essential matters to postpone planned travel to Saudi Arabia until conditions stabilize.
  • Stranded Malaysians in Jeddah: Several Malaysian travelers in Jeddah have been temporarily stranded following return flight cancellations resulting from regional airspace and airline operational disruptions.
  • Security Context & Infrastructure Strikes: The heightened security alert follows recent attacks targeting energy and civil infrastructure across the Kingdom, including strikes affecting a Saudi Aramco facility.
  • Consular Assistance Framework for Tokyo Detainees: In a separate update regarding five Malaysians detained in Tokyo for alleged drug smuggling, Mohamad clarified that while the ministry can provide basic consular support, legal proceedings remain strictly under Japanese jurisdiction. He added that Japanese privacy laws prohibit consular visits without the explicit written consent of the detainees themselves.

The Malaysian Embassy in Riyadh will continue providing updates and emergency support to registered Malaysian citizens across the Gulf region.
