KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 — Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has immediately suspended a staff member following serious allegations of sexual harassment involving at least eight students at a MARA Educational Institution (IPMa).
MARA Chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki confirmed that the immediate suspension was enforced to ensure a thorough investigation could be conducted without interference from any involved parties.
The allegations surfaced after several students claiming to be victims reached out directly to Asyraf Wajdi via social media direct messages (DMs), prompting him to order instant action by MARA management.
“I tried hard to persuade them to file a police report, as this involves a criminal matter. I find it curious that these students are more willing to complain directly to me than to the management,” Asyraf Wajdi wrote in a Facebook post.
Reassuring students and the public, Asyraf Wajdi emphasized that MARA maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and gave his firm assurance that no case would be concealed or silenced to protect the institution’s image.
“Do not be afraid to report any misconduct, especially regarding sexual harassment. MARA will never compromise on such misconduct and will take stern action, including dismissal, against those involved,” he stated.
