KUANTAN, July 5 — Malaysia is set to mark a historic milestone tomorrow as it hosts its first-ever national celebration of World Rural Development Day (WRDD) at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium in Jengka, near Maran.

The landmark event, themed “Toward Vibrant, Prosperous and Happy Rural Communities,” is designed to recognize the critical groups driving national growth and supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, is scheduled to officially launch the celebration.

According to an official statement posted on the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development’s (KKDW) Facebook page, the national celebration will anchor itself on three primary strategic thrusts, namely community innovation, rural digitization, and rural entrepreneur development. These core pillars are being translated into actionable, long-term initiatives aimed at expanding local economic opportunities, strengthening access to modern digital infrastructure, and empowering rural populations to become progressive and highly competitive on a macro level.

“This effort also reflects the government’s continued commitment through KKDW in improving the well-being of rural communities,” the ministry stated.

The historic gathering will also play host to a series of high-profile events and corporate updates. Key highlights scheduled for the day include the presentation of the Rural Aspiration Award MADANI, the Felda Plan Excellence Award presentation, the official launch of the My Rural Insight Journal, and the highly anticipated announcement of the Felcra Bhd Interim Distributable Profit Distribution 1/2026. KKDW has extended a warm invitation to members of the public to join the festivities and engage with interactive showcases and informational contents displayed at the booths of the ministry and its various participating agencies.

World Rural Development Day was formally declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 6, 2024. The UN designated July 6 as the annual commemoration date to align with the historic establishment of the Centre on Integrated Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP). While the inaugural global celebration took place on July 6, 2025, Malaysia has officially stepped up as an active member country to implement its own localized, official national-level celebration starting this year, 2026.
