KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 — Malaysia’s professional shuttler Lee Zii Jia advanced to the semi-finals of the Canada Open after defeating Taiwan’s Wang Po-wei 21-15, 21-13 in the quarter-finals at the Markham Pan Am Centre on Friday.
The 34-minute win marked the Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist’s first semi-final appearance this season. The world No. 60 had not reached the semi-final stage of any tournament since the Paris Olympics.
Zii Jia will face Japan’s Riki Takei in the semi-finals, after the Japanese player advanced from another quarter-final tie. It will be the second meeting between the two, following Zii Jia’s victory over Takei in the Australian Open qualifying round in Sydney last month.
