KPDN Warns Against Unreasonable Price Hikes on Vegetables Amid Hot Weather

SHAH ALAM, Sept 18 — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will take stern action against traders caught unreasonably raising the prices of essential goods, particularly vegetables, during the ongoing hot weather phenomenon.

Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh emphasized that the ministry is conducting daily price monitoring across markets to prevent unjustified profiteering amid supply chain pressures linked to El Nino.

“When there is a price increase that we consider unusual, KPDN has the authority to obtain cost details throughout the supply chain,” Fuziah told reporters today. “This includes production and logistics costs to determine whether the displayed prices are reasonable.”

Fuziah made the comments after launching the 2026 Pasar PATUH and Rahmah MADANI Sales (PJRM@Pasar) for the state of Selangor at the Section 16 Market here.

Highlighting ongoing consumer protection initiatives, Fuziah noted that the Pasar PATUH Programme currently encompasses 75 public markets and 7,130 traders nationwide. In Selangor alone, seven major wet markets have been integrated into the programme, involving educational advocacy sessions and targeted compliance inspections across nearly 300 business premises.
