Johor Dengue Cases Surge 131% to 9,954 as of Epidemiological Week 34

JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 2 — Johor recorded 9,954 dengue cases up to Epidemiological Week (ME) 34 this year, representing a 131.3 per cent surge compared to the 4,304 cases reported during the corresponding period last year.

State Health and Environment Committee Chairman Ling Tian Soon stated today that out of the total cumulative cases registered, 4,520 (45.4 per cent) originated from outbreak localities, while 5,434 cases (54.6 per cent) were recorded in non-outbreak areas.

For ME34 alone, the state logged 664 dengue fever cases, marking a two per cent increase from the 651 cases recorded in the preceding week.

“Of the total dengue cases reported throughout ME34, 308 cases or 46.4 per cent were reported from outbreak localities and 356 cases or 53.6 per cent from non-outbreak localities,” Ling said in a statement.

Johor Bahru emerged as the main hotspot during ME34, accounting for 495 cases or 74.6 per cent of the weekly total. This was followed by Kulai with 120 cases, Batu Pahat (19), Segamat (nine), Kota Tinggi (seven), and Muar and Pontian with four cases each.

On fatalities, Ling noted that 13 dengue-related deaths were recorded up to ME33 this year, representing a 62.5 per cent increase compared to the eight deaths reported during the same period in 2025.

To combat the spread, health enforcement agencies issued 3,745 compound notices valued at RM1.87 million throughout the year for breeding vector larvae, with 80.2 per cent of the fines paid to date.
