KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 – The arrest of a 36-year-old Hong Kong man caught carrying one kilogramme of cocaine at Hong Kong International Airport on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, is believed to be linked to an international drug trafficking syndicate recently dismantled by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed on Saturday, November 7, 2026, that the connection was identified through matching operational methods, drug types, and target destinations—namely Hong Kong, Japan, and Indonesia.
“We believe the syndicate has been crippled following the arrest of a Hong Kong national who headed the syndicate and local recruiters, as announced at a press conference yesterday,” Hussein told Bernama.
Customs authorities in Hong Kong intercepted the suspect after discovering cocaine valued at HK$600,000 (RM311,000) concealed inside his shoes following a flight from Malaysia. PDRM confirmed that information-sharing protocols between Malaysian and Hong Kong authorities remain active.
Hussein clarified that the cocaine did not originate from Malaysia, but the nation was utilized as an international transit hub before smuggling attempts were staged via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) or Penang International Airport.
The announcement follows a major PDRM raid at a homestay in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, on Thursday, November 5, where police arrested four individuals—including the Hong Kong national acting as the syndicate mastermind—and seized 450 grammes of cocaine alongside modified shoes designed for drug mules.
The syndicate, which operated starting in September 2026, recruited Malaysian couriers to transport narcotics abroad. Linked arrests include five couriers intercepted at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta and five others detained at Haneda International Airport in Tokyo between September and October.
